The inaugural Camaro vs. Mustang Throwdown was held Saturday, Nov. 21st, 2015 at the Sanford Hooters. Classic Camaro of Central Florida and the Mid-Florida Mustang Club co-hosted the event that was designed to be a charity event in support of Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida. Pre-registration was brisk with over 150 owners registering their vehicles. Day of the show registration also kept the volunteers busy insuring that everyone who wanted to be a part of the show could participate. While the weather appeared to be a bit iffy, Mother Nature looked favorably on the event and only offered up a brief sprinkling of liquid sunshine. A goal of 200 attendees was set for this first time show and while the organizers came up just a few cars short of meeting their target, the response insured that this will not be the only Throwdown. The Hooters parking lot was full of all generations of Camaros and Mustangs which afforded the many spectators the opportunity to reminisce of their younger days and ownership of one of these iconic nameplates. Whether it was a base stock model or a modified, high end, limited production model, it could be found at this show and the spectators appreciated seeing them all. The entrants came from far and wide to be a part of this 1st time show and CCCF and MFMC appreciated each and every one for supporting the event.
Being that this was a charity event, everything associated with this show was donated; from the door prizes to the custom made awards, the sponsors and local businesses stepped up to allow Give Kids The World Village to receive 100% of the shows proceeds. The 50/50 ticket sales were being gobbled up by the car length and judging was in the form of a modified participant choice, where entrants and spectators could purchase voting tickets for $1 per ticket and vote for their favorite car. All the ticket money went to the charity, GKTWV. Top 5 Camaro and Top 5 Mustang were rewarded with custom made trophies supplied by some talented craftsmen of the MFMC. There was a Hooters Choice award, donated by Chris Cruz Artistry and Give Kids The World Village Choice award, handcrafted by the children and staff of GKTWV. Additional support was provided by Ecklers, M.A.P. Racing from the Fort Pierce area, FlaCarShows.com, Russ Muller Photography and Ken Knafou of Central Florida Caricatures.
The show was a resounding success with everyone enjoying themselves while taking playful jabs at each other on which model was the best looking, fastest, and most popular. This year the Blue Oval owners earned bragging rights for the most popular model, with an approximately 2-1 margin over the Bowtie faithful. The challenge has been issued to Camaro owners to show your bowtie pride and bring those bragging rights back where they belong at next year’s show.
The show committee would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, businesses making donations, spectators and especially the owners of the Camaros and Mustangs for being a part of this event. We look forward to repeating this Central Florida event for years to come and to continue to support worthy charities throughout the area.
