Patterned after Pebble Beach and Amelia Island, the Gasparilla Concours d’Elegance will offer a multi-day schedule of events with exquisite classic vehicles worth tens of millions of dollars (both cars and motorcycles). This is the only true Concours d’Elegance for Tampa, and for those unfamiliar Concours, they differ from a typical car show since it is an invitation-only event. This is where extraordinary vehicles, many never seen in public, are invited to take part and be judged for prestigious awards in the automotive community.
The field has been set and they are looking forward to the second annual Concours being held on April 17 through the 19th at Tampa’s beautiful downtown Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Last year’s Concours was a resounding success and they are looking forward to having an even greater impact this year. There is a wonderful field of the “Gasparilla 100” featuring original, rare, and important vehicles. In addition, a new VIP Tent has been established offering early admission, a private bar and restroom along with dinner on Friday with breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. Bleachers have been added outside of the show field entrance allowing spectators to see the beautiful the cars drive out.
This event celebrates “100 Years of Automotive Excellence” and is proud to have this year’s featured vehicle a 1920 Anderson Six, Convertible Roadster. This precious automobile was made by Anderson Motor Company in Rock Hill South Carolina, and they named the company after its founder, John Gary Anderson. It was a pricey car costing around $2000 when the car of the day, the Model T Ford, only cost around $400. Of the twelve or thirteen Anderson’s which have survived this is the only Convertible Roadster.
The festivities kick off Friday night, April 17th. The ceremony will host a “Cars-in-the-Park” cocktail party and charity auction also at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. This will be a family-friendly, fun night where non-concours cars and Concours cars are welcome to join in the fun prior to Saturday’s main event. It will also offer good food and live music. Advance registration for this event is required.
On Saturday, April 18th, the main Concours will take place with 100 of the most exciting and beautiful automobiles and motorcycles on display. Food, live music and Shriners Healthcare for Children-Florida patients will be on-site to provide entertainment and share their experiences on how Shriners helped improve their lives. The day will be capped off with an impressive awards ceremony.
On Sunday, April 19th, the weekend will wrap up with a 3 hour “Gasparilla Nickel Tour” touring the beautiful Tampa neighborhoods and ending with lunch at Armature Works.
The Gasparilla Concours d’Elegance is a 501 c3 Non-Profit Corporation with all benefits going to Shriners Healthcare for Children-Florida, where those in need are never turned away. The event’s passion is to make the event “all about the children” and to put smiles on their faces. No compensation is paid to any organizers of this event. We do it for the love of our community, the love of great classic cars, and the love for the kids who will benefit at Shriners Healthcare for Children – Florida.
