Recently the 10th annual Racing Legends Parade took place at Racing Turn North restaurant at Ponce Inlet. Before Daytona International Speedway, stock car races in Central Florida were run on the beaches in the Daytona area. This parade of vintage race cars celebrates the cars and drivers who raced on the beach in the forties and fifties. The cars cruised south from the restaurant (north turn) on Route A1A down to the “south turn”, where they would crossover onto the sandy beach and head back north. This parade was the same route taken back in the “good old days” of motor racing. The Ford number 43 race car was driven by my friend and fellow SAAC member “Daytona” Don Wells from Hyde Park, NY.
